John Lott Junior double bass c. 1845

These pages give some information on my double bass which I've now owned for a few years.

An article on the bass, written by Tom Martin and Martin Lawrence was published in the Double Bassist magazine in 2007 and the bass is now featured in The English Double Bass -

It was made for Hart's around 1845 and is stamped below the button (shown below). It is now thought to have been made by John Lott junior. Some of the thinking behind this attribution is explained here.

The bass has had a busy professional life for at least the last four decades, including a long period in the Halle. Stamps in two places also indicate that it has spent some of its time in the army. It now has a more relaxed time on the amateur circuit in North Yorkshire.
